album of the decade

let’s try some dumber simpler posts on here pitchfork did some half-decade lists and of course fetch the bolt cutters, the only album they’ve given a 10 since my beautiful dark twisted fantasy, is #1. fetch the bolt cutters is such a funny album because nobody ever talks about it except in conversations like this. it’s a record that exists exclusively to fit the mold of what is supposed to top an “album of the decade” list, but nobody listens to it or talks about it or is influenced by it.

new blog, new me

this blog may look exactly the same for you, but it’s in fact totally different! i intend to post here more now that cohost is going away. expect a lot of the more effortful posts that i used to post on there to be here instead. i used to host blood.church on neocities, and it was built with a very simple static site generator called cobalt. this setup required some really annoying manual uploading whenever i wanted to post.

what is to be done: custom engines and the death of unity

over a year ago i wrote a blog post like this the last time unity did something indefensible. that blog post still has some useful information but i wanted to write an update to address changes in my own opinion and responses i’ve received. i. against the big-box engines by a huge margin, the most common response to the news of unity’s continual enshittification i see is the desire to learn godot or unreal engine.

making your own engine: a survey of the landscape

i have been meaning to write something like this for a while. this is probably only the beginning of a series of articles i will be writing about the practical, technical aspects of making your own game engine. why? because unity just “merged” with a company that makes malware. many people are jumping ship to unreal engine. i think this is a bad idea. a lot of the justifications for “why” are covered in this fantastic blog post by tyler glaiel.

elon musk bought twitter. what next?

“GET YOUR ASS OFF TWITTER CAUSE IT GIVES YOU FUCKING MENTAL ILLNESS” - fraxiom on the day that i write this, noted rick and morty fan elon musk has bought twitter1. everyone is freaking the fuck out. now, i’ve gone on the record as saying that i don’t actually think that anyone who is claiming they’re going to leave twitter over this is actually going to leave twitter2. and i frankly don’t think that it’s because everyone is too “addicted” to the “dopamine.
