new music roundup: april 2025
20250513
a little late, but i finally had time to put this roundup together.
revengeseekerz by jane remover
revengeseekerz is album of the year. revengeseekerz is music 2. revengeseekerz is car_crash_and_siren.wav: the video game: the movie: the album. revengeseekerz is a very dangerous album to put on while driving on the highway. revengseekerz is the feeling of smashing a car headlight with a baseball bat. revengeseekerz is potential fully realized. revengeseekerz is the sound of, for once in your life, allowing yourself to feel entirely and earnestly like you are better than everyone else. revengeseekerz is every emotion you have ever felt being thrown directly at your solar plexus at 102 miles per hour by randy johnson, causing you to explode into chunks of viscera and for some reason, pieces of broken glass.
the 1 by jane remover
jane remover has released a couple of what i assume are cutting room floor extras from revengeseekerz and they are good. this is the one from april.
shake it like a (jane remover remix) (syzy remix) by syzy, jane remover, frost children and danny brown
tracey brakes played this during her set at a show i went to a few weeks ago and i screamed so loud.
poplife by umru and underscore
umru and underscores produce something that very much feels like it could have been made by easyfun, a.g. cook, and hannah diamond in 2015. i like it.
flame unbroken by shades, eprom, and alix perez
this track is thrilling, atmospheric, brilliant modern dubstep.
G.I.R.L. by 8485 ft. danny brown
danny brown continues his tour of 2021 hyperpop legends by making a truly fantastic track with 8485.
star by 2hollis
2hollis really had all the wind taken out of his sails by releasing this on the same day as revengeseekerz. this album should probably have had a bunch of stuff cut from it, and it’s not as good as boy, but what’s good is really good.
stem by gabby start
suprise! gabby start is back, and has put together a super fun album of bouncy indie pop with a digicore edge.
under tangled silence by djrum
absolutely beautiful piano impressions juxtaposed with really smart and intricate drum programming.
the scholars by car seat headrest
this album is huge. it’s so massive i cannot begin to wrap my head around it. definitely the most challenging listen in the car seat headrest catalogue. overall, i feel similarly to this as i did about making a door less open: there’s about as many choices here that i like as there are choices that i don’t like. i would say this is worth giving a listen to, especially if you ever wonder what it would be like if pavement tried to be the who.
